Good Good Friday

I am having a hard time this year

The old script for Good Friday Wants me to feel guilt For the nails (Is my guilt supposed to motivate me into being thankful?) And shame for my sins I’ve been taught to posture myself as small before you

But you stretched out your arms Large In the vein of love A sign of embrace And your desire is for us to come close Not spend 3 days in penance until you Rise again

Your end goal is not for me to be guilty-thankful But to learn to do the same In showing sacrificial love

I am learning your story is not one of punishment From a father whose hands were tied But of example Of a life laid down Your love never was transactional But relational Transformational

Position me to see with new eyes this year, Jesus To see and learn The Way of love Offering myself for another As you have shown

I am drawn to your glory In the sacrifice And in the waiting And on the third day too

You are the Way The Truth And the Life Even in death
